  New Woolcool hamper pouches and cool bags

  To include chilled food items in non insulated hampers, new Woolcool Pouches are the most effective, good value and sustainable solution. Originally developed for the most famous fine food emporium, Fortnum & Mason, The Wool Packaging Company have now launched two sizes of insulated pouches which are ideal for including all kinds of deli items, speciality meats and luxury seafood within all styles of food hampers, for mail order deliveries or store collections.

  The pouches are made from high quality, recyclable LDPE, lined with the award winning Woolcool insulation which is made from natural sheep's wool to keep contents cool and provide cushioning protection. The pouches have a gusseted base to make them ideal for small yet bulky items and a broad self adhesive strip means there no chance of the contents slipping out. The pouches measure 430mm x 430mm (large) and 330mm x 330mm (medium) with a base of 130mm wide when fully opened.

  Fortnum & Mason are delighted with their distinctive personalised Woolcool pouches which they have tested to keep their chilled items under 8°c for substantially longer than their previous polyethylene-based packaging. The pouches are also much more practical and cost effective than sending chilled items in rigid polystyrene boxes or having to resort to putting the whole hamper into an insulated container.

  In addition to the hamper pouches, two sizes of luxury cool bags are also now available in the same design but with clip together handles. Woolcool Cool Bags are designed as an added value product for speciality food retailers so their customers can keep purchases in prime condition for lengthy journeys home. The cool bags are also expected to be a big hit for the summer season of farmers markets, food fairs and picnics, not to mention The Queens Diamond Jubilee and 2012 Olympics!

  Unique food packaging solutions for 2012 Olympics

  The stipulation that food packaging for the London 2012 Olympic Park must be re-usable, widely recyclable or compostable makes woolcool® and woolmail® a godsend for caterers and food retailers planning to supply all kinds of perishable products. The directive is hoped to help LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) achieve its target of sending zero waste to landfill directly from the Olympic Park during the Games.

  For catering suppliers bidding to provide products such as fresh meat, fish, dairy products, deli items and ready meals to hotels, restaurants and takeaway outlets in Olympic Park, woolcool® insulated delivery boxes are primarily designed to be reused. The woolcool® packaging is not only strong and hygienic but can also be flat-packed for convenient storage between collections, unlike the bulky, pre-formed polystyrene cartons. With natural sheeps wool providing the insulation, The Wool Packaging Company can also supply woolcool® that is 100% compostable should re-use be impractical due to the nature of the product or client logistics. It is believed that few, if any other packaging supplier will be able to offer an equivalent  insulated packaging solution that is 100% compostable, which could simply make woolcool® the most logistically practical and cost effective cold chain solution.  

  A further opportunity for takeaway food retailers and hotels within Olympic Park is believed to be in souvenir packaging and for this the woolmail® concept has exciting potential. The insulated woolmail®pouches can be supplied fully branded and sold as souvenir items which will keep hot or chilled food items at the optimum temperature for upto several hours.  The woolmail® pouches would be intended to be reusable by consumers but can also be supplied as 100% compostable.
