Sustainability is one of the buzzwords of our age. Prompted by concerns over the climate crisis and changing attitudes to waste and pollution, businesses and organisations of all kinds are including sustainability more and more in their decision making.
Here at Woolcool®, we have been doing as far back as the invention of the Woolcool® concept 20 years ago. Our eco food packaging and eco pharma packaging relies on a sustainable, natural material – 100% real sheep’s wool – to provide temperature control during transit.
Used in place of manmade insulators such as polystyrene, wool is sustainable, biodegradable, compostable, recyclable and reusable, as well as being abundantly available. Wool breaks down in seawater. Our lighter products take up less space in transit chains, lowering our clients’ carbon footprint too.

In the last year alone, companies who use Woolcool® products have saved over 1670 tonnes of polystyrene insulation from landfill – that’s the equivalent weight of 417 elephants.

Woolcool®, the packaging company, was launch in 2009 and so, after 11 years of pioneering research and development, with millions of pounds invested in testing and perfecting our products, we understand the challenges of sustainability better than many.

Our eco food packaging products have been used by household names for years to deliver fresh and delicious produce in a sustainable and responsible way. Pharma companies who demand high performance temperature control for their drug and medical supplies – but also want to find a more sustainable option – know they can rely on the data that backs our eco pharma packaging.

Woolcool®’s journey over the last 11 years has given us a unique insight into the changing eco packaging landscape, as well as an appreciation of the broader impact of sustainability. So, as more companies look to make a move to eco food packaging and eco pharma packaging, we are able to offer advice and guidance on the decisions they make.

We help clients to understand how they can achieve a more sustainable way of delivering their temperature-sensitive products, using our 100% wool insulation, while still ensuring peak performance and cost effectiveness.

One of the myths we have dispelled over the last 11 years is that switching to eco food packaging and eco pharma packaging does not mean sacrificing performance or increasing costs.

And those years of research have also helped us identify and avoid the passing trends and knee-jerk reactions that are common in the sustainable economy, fads and phases that are often more driven by marketing and the news agenda.

So, for example, while we understand the need to greatly reduce the use of plastic in packaging, we also know that for some of our partners, a viable, safe and reliable alternative has yet to be identified. So our approach is often to minimise plastic use, creating a tailored solution that improves sustainability across the solution, while not compromising quality, cost or performance.

True eco food packaging not only needs to have verifiable sustainability credentials, it also has to function properly as a delivery method. With any eco pharma packaging, where the delivery of medical and drug products can have health implications for customers, performance must take precedence over ‘green’ ambitions.

Eco branding can often be referred to as a ‘box ticking’ exercise. We believe that the first box that should be ticked is reliability.

Likewise, we help partners to understand the broader picture when it comes to sustainability – so they can look at their delivery chain as a whole, and understand the carbon footprint it creates.

The good news is that all of this is much simpler than it might appear, because the packaging options we have created, along with the knowledge we have built up, provide the flexibility that helps us create a solution that suits you with the minimum of fuss.

After 11 years of design and development, we have a range of products for both eco food packaging and eco pharma packaging that allow us to build bespoke solutions to match the needs of temperature controlled products.

We know we’re not perfect. However, we are driven and strive to always look to improve and learn from the latest research and discoveries, which allows us to fine tune our products and offer more choice to our partners.

That’s why we have invested in our own Climactic Chambers, which allow us to test the solutions we create for https://j-galt.com/accutane-30mg/ our clients, to understand the limits of their capabilities. That’s why we work with the UK’s top universities to build the data that backs up the remarkable insulating properties of wool, and why we have won millions of pounds of Government funds to fund scientific research. And that’s why we have won a Queens Award for Industry: Innovation.

Sustainability is indeed one of the buzzwords of the age, driving a new era in business and commerce to create an ecologically-sound approach to packaging. As a pioneer in the field, Woolcool® are here to advise and help businesses choose the right option for their needs.
