The nation has a new King and Woolcool has received another Royal honour. In what may prove to be the last Queen’s Award scheme before it is renamed, Woolcool has been recognised with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise (Sustainable Development).
Plaudits and praise were never the driving factor behind the Woolcool ethos. However, we are very proud of the latest accolade to be added to our trophy cabinet – the 2022 Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development.
By harnessing the benefits of 100% pure wool to provide superior insulation for temperature-controlled packaging, Woolcool® was created as a viable alternative to polystyrene and other manmade materials, stopping millions of tonnes of pollutants from going into landfills.
From the ‘eureka moment’ when our founder Angela Morris first realised the potential of 100% sheep’s wool as an insulator for packaging, to our Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation, Woolcool® has always looked for new ways of doing things.
Our company was formed after a ‘eureka’ moment for our founder Angela Morris, after she was asked to find a way to help the National Trust’s farmers get their products to market in a reliable and environmentally friendly way.
As more and more companies choose to deliver their produce via delivery systems such as chilled boxes or insulated envelopes, the benefits of quality temperature-controlled packaging is becoming more widely known.
At Woolcool we have invested heavily in exploring the science behind our product, not just in the way it works, but right down to the inherent properties of the fibre, and we continue to do so.
Wool is an age-old material, whose properties have been formed over millions of years of evolution. Yet it has been ignored in recent times, and replaced by man-made alternatives. Until now.
The last ten years have seen a renaissance in insulated packaging for food and pharma, whether that’s delivering frozen goods, sending medical supplies via courier or transporting large shipments in refrigerated vehicles.
Woolcool® was launched in 2009 and the innovative, sustainable design has scooped an impressive haul of awards in the packaging, business and environmental arenas.
